The Chinese state-owned Aviation Industry Corporation of China (Avic) announced that the Wing Loong-2H drone has successfully carried out the cloud seeding operation in the mountainous region of Qinghai-Tibet.
The drone or large unmanned aerial vehicle can detect clouds of precipitation for the analysis of meteorological data, as well as create artificial rain and snow thanks to a precipitation increase catalyst.
During the test flight, the Wing Loong-2H flew over for 5 hours and had influence on the increase of precipitation in an area of 15.000 square kilometers.
Now, Avic intends to use the drone to provide data for studies and research on climate change, including sustaining agricultural and animal production in China's mountainous regions.
For the future, Avic announced that it will advance in the construction of other drone units, aiming to create a broad meteorological observation system, mainly for improving cloud seeding.
